So a small introduction: At the beginning I wasn’t really interested in mobile MMORPGs, I guess I was a “hardcore” player pretty much and I’m afraid that most of mobile mmorpgs are casual and full of crap.

Then I saw that a MMO (currently in beta; Life is Feudal) has a very interesting idea. An android application that is separate from the main MMO and it has many mini games from which you can keep the score and then use it in the actual MMO game for faster gathering etc. Unfortunately this idea is in hiatus pretty much now, but it got me interested in mobile MMORPGs and their potential. I also wanted to be able to play a game on the go, while not being home at PC, so eventually I’ve discovered many different games for mobiles. I’ve seen many people asking on forums about android MMOs and many more saying that there aren’t any decent, or that all of them are p2w.

Which is definitely not true!I detest the p2w/VIP, auto-play crap that infests the genre now.The less the windows/options on the top right the best!So here is my list with my suggestions, I’ll be starting with the hidden gems/ the most unknown and will be advancing to the most popular ones. I’m gonna include additional information for some of them, as I’ve played/tested/read about them and for some I will not. Most of them have a high/low fantasy setting (not many sci-fi) and are RPGs (not strategy etc) but I also include some with those specifications.

Most of them (if not all) are playable with Android, I’m not sure about iOS.Some of them are downloadable from the google play market as apks, some others are not in google play and some are browser based MMOs (Puffin browser app is suggested to play those! It’s free!).Some of them are old (dating even back to 1980) some are brand new and some are on testing phase or not even out yet. Most of them are F2P with micro-transactions (unfortunately some have slight P2W elements). There are a few which are B2P, or premium with monthly subscription and even one that it’s based on cryptocurrency! On the name of the games I’m including the link on the official site/where to download them or find more info.Hidden gems/ Unknown good MMOs for mobile:: Very in-depth 3D MMO, fair F2P, you can check all of its features and more details on the. The UI is not 100% suited for smartphones (at least the last time I’ve played). It has a small but very dedicated community.: An “All fair Hardcore online ARPG” as advertised, and I think I agree. A full-fledged MMO (kinda reminds me of Lineage II but that’s just me), it has PvE (quests, dungeons/bosses), strict open-PvP and free character development.

It also has optional subscription allowing you access to some “member zones”, it’s not P2W tho.: Old school 2D style sandbox MMO. Many features, PvE & PvP. Currently in Beta, but lots of content already in.: F2P 2D MMORPG, hack’n’slash, currently in Beta. Kinda feels like RotMG. As dev described; “Zelda Lttp combined with World of Warcraft and Harvest moon”.: It has its own unique setting, fast-paced targetless combat. Currently in Beta.: Forum’s for apk download. Really old MMO (started in 1980s!).

Lots of features, still get's updated. Of a nice article from massively about it.: Oldschool, sandbox cross-platform MMORPG.: 2D MMO with 'unique art style', PvE & PvP, currently in beta.

Haven't tested it yet.(Browser Based).: (Browser Based) More like RTS, with turn-based like battles. Very in-depth, many features, influenced by D&D in some aspects.: MMORTS game taking place in 1896. It’s military/war themed strategy game in which you can also fight in battles with shooter-combat type.Found this game thanks to who creates some great tl;dr android game reviews quite often, check his profile for more.: The first true survival sandbox MMO in the list. Currently is in-beta (but downloadable and playable from google store). The publisher is gonna be, which is both good and bad.

Good because it’s a very big company with many successful titles but many of which are slight to extremely P2W!Now about Durango so far is an amazing game. True survival/sandbox/building MMO with dinosaurs. Nice combat, lots of content, PvP and more. So far in betas there was no shop at all, but almost sure this gonna change on release, have to see what they gonna add and how the monetization will be. It’s expected to release soon.More survival based MMOs:: I used to play this game a lot, but I’m afraid that now is pretty much abandoned.

Anyway, it’s a very good survival/crafting/sandbox MMO with zombies, feels like rust in some aspects but with a lot less features. Not really p2w, back when I was playing it was infested with hackers, I doubt that it has been fixed since then: Same genre pretty much, survival/sandbox with zombies, besides this one is not abandonware, it still gets updated. It’s not really open world and it doesn't actually plays like a MMO. Albion Online: A cross platform hardcore MMO, also advertised as “sandbox” (and even though it’s my current main game, I have to disagree with this “tag”). It has very good combat, hardcore PvP with full loot, arenas and guild conflicts.

Complete PvE with expeditions and dungeons. Lots of crafting and gathering with a player-based economy. Little to none p2w, it does have grind. Careful though, it’s suggested to do simpler activities with mobile devices (PvE, gathering/crafting) and not anything risky. It’s the first mentioned (and I think the only one in this list) that is B2P!Sorry, I have to call Bullshit on Albion Online.

Their entire economy is based on P2W through their town plot and silver/gold system. The main problem is that the town plots are 'run up' by gold farmers and gold sellers who use the properties as passive income. It was discovered the first month of live that the company SBI was profiting from gold sellers and allowing 'bad gold/silver' to inflate the plot cost of 'good gold/silver' and the company basically said 'tough shit' with their bad PR jackass of a CEO.The P2W aspects and the necessities of the town plot system are only notable in top tier level play, so if you play casual it is fun. But if you enjoy the endgame, politics or guild warfare aspects you get caught up in that bullshit very quickly.I would seriously avoid Albion Online. I so didn't want this thread to end up having this issue.

Out of all these games and effort, you have to find something to call bullshit and stuff.Well I changed the description of AlbionOnline, added links too, to represent the controversity about it.Personally I don't believe its P2W but neither that its a fair system. I've played a lot, including endgame activities, and except from buying the base game I've never spend another $ on it, nor felt like someone who spent is better than me.Because no matter what he has or how much he has spent, it all comes down to skill and strategy.SBI indeed has done many mistakes and shady things afaik and the drama with the town plots (Iron bank) did happen.Although it has banned most of the gold sellers. Yeah, propably they focused so much on this in order to have the monopoly of 'gold selling' and not because they wanted 'black market activities' out of their game. But endgame is not town plots and even if it was now it seems alright. My guild do have one in Caerleon and personally I own one in another city.

People playing on endgame level are mostly using their clan stations in Black Zones. In EVE and Darkfall ND people are also able to spend $ to buy in-game currency in order to acquire better gear/items (which most are player-crafted)Anyway, I've linked 2 discussions in the original thread hoping that they include some of the arguments against/ in favor.Besides, in contrast to most mobile MMORPGs, Albion Online is much better IMO and it belongs to this list. It's a game with many flaws, but I don't believe that itsmonetization is the main one.Better stay to the subject in this thread and not get lost in this discussion. No problem, the thread is wonderful as a whole, I just wanted to provide balance to the commentary in that particular section as SBI really did screw a particular set of players, utilizing a section of the game that was heavily advertised, in the name of greed and then double downed on it when they were called out on it.Their CEO should be banned from using a keyboard at the office, doing any sort of PR or interacting with the player-base, he is absolutely horrible.Albion Online was supposed to be the savior of the 'sandbox' MMORPG genre, which is pretty much dead at the moment. The bullshit that SBI did to the Iron Bank guild was unforgivable.Albion Online isn't roses unless you are HYPER casual.

Any sort of hardcore play will run into SBIs greed and it needed to be said. Albion has problems, for sure, but this is so wrong. I'm sorry, but it is obvious for someone that actually plays on 'top tier level play' (your words) that you haven't and are just giving plain false information because you quit the game.City plots are basically useless for high tier guilds. We don't care for that, at all, since we have the actual town plots. They have absolute zero importance for 'competitive' gameplay. It's also pretty clear you were from that one and specific guild that quit after some economy drama about city plots.

They fucked up, you are absolutely right about that, but that had no impact whatsoever.Sorry to say that. I'm really not trying to get into the endless p2w discussion, as the concept itself varies. This will probably get heavily downvoted, but I hate how people quit for specific reasons and suddenly everything in the game is p2w crap. Game has issues, but the one mentioned is just not true and clearly made out of pure hatred. No, the 'entire economy' is not 'based on P2W through their town plot and silver/gold system' just because your guild had one single specific issue with that. I'd love to do it, but unfortunately Apple is not very developer friendly.

On pretty much any other OS, including Android, you can just download the SDK and start programming. When you are done, you upload the program/app on a server, and everyone can try it.

And you can do cross development, like for example compile for Android from Linux or Windows. For Apple, you have to pay them money for the right to develop, then you need an OSX computer, and you can't distribute your apps on your own, it has to be through their store. Good list and very informative! Thank you OP!A word of caution: Do NOT spend money or link your Google account to Crusaders of Light. I played the game for a month or two and enjoyed it well enough, but NetEase continued charging my bank account in small increments over a month before my bank caught it even though I had quit playing back in October. They stole over $2000 in a months time(even though I had uninstalled the app a long time ago).

I'm currently fighting them to get it back. It's a decent game but DO NOT let them have access to your main Google play account/ your Google wallet, they will steal as much as they can in a short amount of time without your consent.
